The Ravnos
Often viewed as nothing but thieves, brigands and just generally trouble, the Ravnos are a Rom family line of Kindred and Kine alike. To a fault, these wandering people frequently travel from Domain to Domain, leaving small bits of chaos in their wake. Known as tricksters, thieves, and criminals, the Ravnos often earn that reputation, whether the family elders desire it or not.
Nonetheless, the Ravnos claim one of the oldest legacies of all Kindred. While their history is shadowed by mystery and rumor to any outsider, the Ravnos' connection to the Rom culture plays a large part in their way of life as well as their persecution.
A spirited and vibrant group, the Ravnos adapt often making the most of a hostile world and turning it to their advantage as best they can.
Solidarity, Loyalty, The "Treatment"
Make no mistake: while Ravnos division may lead to points of contention amongst themselves, if an outsider crosses one of these whimsical Kindred, even the most vicious of Ravnos enemies will set their differences aside to defend their mutual blood and teach a lesson to any that dare mistreat their brethren. While often perceived as a light-hearted and joyous group of people, woe to the Kindred that persecutes a Ravnos. Rumor has spread amongst all Kindred society of the consequences of such actions. Even a mere dozen Ravnos running amok in revenge for "wrong doing" could bring the most experienced Prince to the brink. Thus, most Camarilla Princes will warily tolerate a Ravnos Kindred's existence in his city until such time the nomad chooses to move on.
St. John's is a definite exception to this general rule of conduct. The Ravnos population seems more accepted in St. John's than any other Camarilla city in the world. A tenuous treaty held between the Ravnos Baro and the plebeian Prince.
Politics
As with the mortal gypsies, the Ravnos hold themselves separate from politics. A nomadic people, they police their own kind and roam from Domain to Domain overall unhindered by the Camarilla, Sabbat and Anarchs alike. This is most likely due to the rumor of retribution mentioned above. Thus, they have been labeled as Independents.
Make no mistake, though. While an outsider may see the group as a riotous band of no-good thieves, the Ravnos of St. John's have a very high standard of Rom law and abide by its cultural traditions fervently.
The Phuri Dae
The Phuri Dae are viewed as the keepers of knowledge amongst the Rom, honing the magic of their Blood and learning more about their future and the past than any other Ravnos bloodline.
They are often viewed by outsiders as mere fortune-tellers and soothsayers, but to the Ravnos family as a whole the Phuri Dae are generally held in high regard. They posses the power of Dook (aka "The Sight").
Ravnos vs. Gangrel
While most Ravnos do not recall the root cause, it is well known that the Gangrel generally despise the Ravnos Kindred. Of course, being a prideful people, the Ravnos respond in kind to the vehement Gangrel and hate them right back often leading to outright warfare. Rumors abound on when/where this contention began, but thus far information regarding the truth of the situation remains unknown. The short of it, Ravnos hate Gangrel even if they don't know why.
The fact that St. John's isn't caught in constant civil war (even with the high population of both Ravnos and Gangrel) is still a conundrum to both Neonates and Ancillae alike.
